Biography – Mike Urquhart
Mike began his career with the United Sates Navy in 1974; retiring from the service in
2003. While with the Navy, he served in a number of positions which included
Electrician, Operations and Maintenance Supervisor/Manager, and finally as an
Executive Officer overseeing facility operations associated with the largest naval
industrial complex on the west coast of the United States – Naval Base Coronado.
Mike’s technical experience included all facets of maintenance associated with surface
and submarine shipboard platforms, carrier-based aviation aircraft, and nuclear power
generation plants. In 2003, Mike retired from naval service and was appointed to the position of Director of
Facility Operations for a 40 acre acute care hospital campus located in Southern
California. In 2006, Mike joined the County of San Diego, Department of General Services as the
Chief of Facility Operations. He continues to serve in this position today with
responsibility for the Operations and Maintenance of more than 550 facilities
encompassing roughly 6.5 million useable square feet and spread across an estimated
4,000 square miles. Mike has been a member of the California Counties Facilities Services Association
(CCFSA) since 2006. In 2010, he was elected and currently serves as the association
